Whittlesea Bushfire Memorial
fire, loss and community spirit
The Whittlesea Bushfire Memorial, located in the Toorourrong Reservoir Park, is a place of remembrance. Dedicated to those from Whittlesea, Victoria, whose lives were lost in the devastating Black Saturday bushfires, one of the worst in Australia’s history.
Created from recycled granite, a narrative wall presents themes of fire, loss and community spirit through image and text, while a memorial wall is dedicated to remembering loved ones lost in the fires. The space offers a sanctuary for private remembrance and shared stories.
This was a collaborative design project led by Toni Roberts at Hatchling Studio. DWD provided graphic design services for the project, other team members included David Gargiulo (technical design) and Hamish Coates (landscape design).
