Revealing Stories – Geelong

The hidden history of the performing arts scene in Geelong

The idea behind Revealing Stories was to bring performing arts history to life by exploring some of the places and people that have contributed to Geelong’s vibrant cultural identity, past and present. Over the course of the project, we explored six venues that contained outstanding elements and wonderful surprises including Regent Theatre, Palais Geelong, Geelong Trades Hall Council, Returned Soldiers and Sailors Woollen Mill, Geelong Ballroom Dance Club and Geelong West Brass Band.

The project was a collaboration with Janine Barrand, a Melbourne-based cultural historian and senior curator specialising in the performing arts and popular culture. This project has been supported by a City of Greater Geelong Community Grant.
