Public Galleries Association of Victoria

The client

The PGAV represents a network of public galleries, art museums and contemporary art spaces across regional and metropolitan Victoria.

The brief

To increase participation and visitation to public galleries by running a state wide Open Day designed to encourage loyal as well as first time visitors to ‘get into art’ and enjoy their local art gallery.

The solution

The design and typographic treatment for the identity is welcoming and energetic making it accessible and attractive to all age groups and demographics. We extended and brightened the PGAV corporate colours. The ribbon spiral from the PGAV logo is replaced with a repeated ‘Get Into Art’, as if the event is taking off, reinforcing the concept of participation and involvement.

The outcome

A 95% increase in visitation to 36 Victorian public art galleries on the Sunday open day in October compared with the previous year. One gallery visitor wrote that “I believe this is what we have been waiting for. [Get into Art!] lifts the mask of obscurity and welcomes everyone in to enjoy the experience of art.”
